Showing an orange-copperish color, the 2011 Vin Santo del Chianti Classico (in a 375-milliliter bottle) brings us great intensity and a real sense of inner firmness and tightness. Emerging from a hot vintage, we get a bonus layer of exuberance and intensity, dishing out honey, candied apricot and brown sugar. This is a classic dessert wine from Tuscany and an extremely accessible expression, almost tailored for Vin Santo newbies. Pair it with the region's famous cantucci biscotti (with a dip or two inside the wine). This Vin Santo is made with equal parts Trebbiano and Malvasia, and the wine is aged in caratelli barrels for seven years. Some 9,100 bottles were made.
